Generate speech from text with ElevenLabs in Node.js

What you get

A Node script that converts text to spoken audio with the eleven_v4 model and plays it.

Prerequisites

Node.js with ES modules (top-level await)
An ElevenLabs API key

Steps

Install the SDK and dotenv:

Shell

npm install @elevenlabs/elevenlabs-js
npm install dotenv

Create a .env file:

ELEVENLABS_API_KEY=<your_api_key_here>

Create example.mts:

Test it

Run npx tsx example.mts. You should hear the sentence spoken in the "George" voice. Swap the voice ID for any voice from your Voice Library.
